Weekend house in Skebobruk, Norrtälje.

Skebobruk is a small village in Roslagen about 80km north of Stockholm. Traditional structures of Skebobruk's production of iron, dating back to the 16th century, are still preserved. The village has very distinct historical housing built along the common street and framed by the tree alleys. Elongated sheds for service and storage, placed alongside the workers houses, distinguish the core of the residential area and create a strong imprint in the landscape. The site of the weekend house lies at the far southern end about 150 meters from this historical area, at a village intersection.
The house itself evolves from the shed typology. To emphasize the homogeneous character of the shed, the black roof metal is also used on the walls with the exception of the recessed porch where composite siding suits better. The entrance is centrally located with access from the porch. In order to balance the volumes the dormer rises up at the southern end of the house. The dormer overhanging the recessed porch thus creates a counterweight to the day room area landing on the patio. Both volumes are stitched together by a balcony and terrace. From the terrace you get a view of Skebobruk's historical housing area. The porch opens up towards the intersection, the other focal point of the neighborhood. The narrow width of the house and the large window openings brings the outdoor environment into the house and the house stays closely connected with the site.
